Facilities

Hanoverian Horse studHere at Hawtins stud, we have invested ahead in our facilities to ensure that we can provide the best and safest environment for our youngsters to grow up in and learn.

We have both indoor and outdoor schools so we can start the youngsters in the relative safety of indoors, but progress outdoors later as their working life will bring the need to perform well in all environments.

Our horse walker was imported from Germany. We specifically wanted an oval shaped walker which minimised the amount of turning and subsequent stress that round walkers that are too small can result in.

Automatic horse walkerAll our youngsters and brood mares are housed in the winter in spacious barns with clean straw, ad lib haylage and daily feed supplements. Each of these barns also has a large outdoor pen which allows the horses to play and exercise. The horses are housed by age group for their social development.

Our investment is for the long term.

Care & Management

From their earliest days, our horses have the best of care. Our farrier, Alan Bailey, is immensely experienced and is a highly regarded farrier. He inspects all the young foals to ensure they have the best start in life and he then checks and trims them every five weeks for the next three years. When the horses reach four years of age, they get their first shoes.
